Obituary for Loren C. "Cannonball" Kauffman

Loren C. “Cannonball” Kauffman, 75, of McVeytown, left this earth to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 11, 2018.
Born August 25, 1943, he was the son of the late Charles and Gertrude (Harshbarger) Kauffman. Loren was preceded in death by a son, Edward Kauffman, in 1975.
Loren is survived by: his companion, Bonnie Rogers; daughter, Lori Sheaffer and husband, JR of Lewistown and son, Joseph Kauffman and wife, Collette of McVeytown; Bonnie’s sons, Troy and Charlie Rogers; four grandchildren, Michael and Lucas Shafranich, Emma and Ian Kauffman; two great-grandchildren, Reagan Shafranich and Lucas Shafranich, Jr.; siblings, Duane Kauffman, Dolores Graber, Joanne Peachey, Brenda Kauffman, Alice Miller and Lance Kauffman.
Early in life, Loren drove tractor and trailer for various local trucking companies. He then worked as a diesel mechanic for Morgan Trucking, later retiring from Boring Transport. He spent a lot of time in his shed doing small engine repair or anything anyone would bring in for him to fix. He enjoyed sitting and talking with the many friends who would stop to visit. He was an avid hunter and a proud member of “The Biggest Bucks in Maine Club”.
Many people knew him simply as “Cannonball”, a nickname he received at a young age from racing go carts on dirt tracks. It was said that he “flew around the track like a cannonball”!
A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at the McVeytown Playground Building from 3-6 p.m. for anyone who knew and loved him to stop by and share a memory they have of him.
Arrangements are being handled by Barr Funeral Home, Inc. and Crematory, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
