Glenn E. Snyder, Sr., 84 of Lewistown, went home to the loving arms of Jesus on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at Valley View Haven.
Born December 1, 1934, he was a son of the late Ellis and Elsie (Wagner) Snyder.
He is survived by his wife, Verna (Allison) Snyder, with whom he was blessed to share 63 years of marriage.
Also surviving are sons, Glenn Snyder, Jr. and wife Lisa and Brian Scott Snyder and wife Tammy all of Lewistown; grandchildren, Lyndsey (Snyder) Beasley and husband Frank of Centreville, VA and Dr. Matthew Snyder and wife Heeju of Houston, TX; great grandchildren, Franklin and Anna Beasley.
He is also survived by sisters, Joyce Gemberling and Maxine Everly.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Bailor and Beatrice Snyder and brothers, Richard Snyder, Robert Snyder and Raymond Snyder.
Glenn was employed as a bill poster, posting bill boards across Central PA for 42 years, retiring in 1996.
Glenn was a lifelong beekeeper, remaining active until 2013.. He loved sharing his knowledge with novice and fellow beekeepers; in addition, Glenn and his son Scott raised and sold Christmas trees.
Glenn was a member of the Strodes Mills Baptist Church, having served as a deacon and a trustee. He was a past member of the Granville Townshiip Planning Commission, Fort Granville Grange, PA State Beekeepers Association and Huntingdon County Beekeepers Associaton. He served on the Board at the “Old” Lewistown YMCA where he was a weight lifting instructor.
Glenn proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army.
Glenn will be remembered as a hardworking, kind and honest man, who had a thirst for knowledge and a love for nature and the outdoors. He loved reading, hunting with his sons, tending to his garden and blueberry patch and sharing childhood memories with his family.
His greatest joy was in nurturing his grandchildren and watching them grow into the adults he was so proud of.
A funeral service in loving memory of Glenn will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at the Barr Funeral Home and Crematory, 120 Logan Street, Lewistown with Pastor Jonathan God officiating. Interment will be in Mount Rock Cemetery.
There will be a time of visitation with the family Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
