Blair F. Echard, 79, of McVeytown, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 11:35 p.m. on Wednesday March 6, 2019 at his home.
Born August 23, 1939 in Altoona, he was the son of the late Earl F. and Grace (Allison) Echard. In addition to his parents, Blair was preceded in death by a brother, Don Echard.
Blair will be remembered and missed by his loving wife, Patricia “Sally” (Hammel) Echard, whom he married in 1965, a son, James Echard and wife Michelle of Lewistown, sister, Barbara Engle and husband Cary of Lemoyne, and grandchildren, Leah and Allison Echard.
Blair graduated from Hollidaysburg High School class of 1957, and went on to attend LeTourneau College in Texas where he received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. After graduation, he enlisted into the U.S. Navy serving in the Vietnam Conflict as an officer on The U.S.S. Bennington, after active duty, he remained in active duty for ten years. After his discharge from the military, he was employed at The Standard Steel for 54 years as Manager Plant Engineer. He was an avid Steelers and Penn State Sports fan, and even held season tickets for various sports. In his free time, Blair enjoyed antique machinery, and the antique clubs that came with it. Most of all, Blair loved his grandchildren with his entire heart. They meant the world to him.
A funeral service in loving memory of Blair will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday March 11, 2019 at Calvary Bible Church, 100 Calvary Ln., Lewistown, with Rev. Howard Houtz, Mr. Bob Marsh, and Pastor Alan Echard officiating. There will be a viewing held at the church from 5-7:00 p.m. on Sunday March 10, 2019.
Interment will be private.
Arrangements are under the care of The Barr Funeral Home Inc. and Crematory 120 Logan Street, Lewistown.
